Exit les thèmes forestiers, les thèmes mélancoliques (déjà très bien menés) de la solitude dans la nature. L'aliénation est plus urbaine, la souffrance est sentimentale — amoureuse ? En tout cas, le sens de la composition est toujours aussi fort et prenant, brisant le cœur.

Écouter Sadness se fait dans une optique de se faire du mal — pas ce mal masochiste comme quand on écoute un black metal bizarre ou dérangé mais plutôt ce mal qui fait se sentir humain, plein d'empathie. Et si j'ai pu dire que les albums les plus beaux de Sadness étaient ceux qui faisaient figurer un arbre sur leur pochette, c'est que je n'avais pas encore entendu atna. Même pas trente minutes, c'est peut-être tant mieux car c'est un album qui peut entraîner des dommages émotionnels importants.
